摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement an initial sequence in an OCB (Optical Compensated Bend) liquid crystal device by using a driving mode similar same as in the normal operation without using any special high-voltage circuit. SOLUTION: The initial sequence includes a bend transition nucleus generation sequence and a bend transition nucleus expansion sequence. In the bend transition nucleus generation sequence, a horizontal electric field is generated by a potential difference between a pixel electrode 9 and a non-selection scanning line X. In the bend transition expansion sequence, the bend transition is expanded by generating a vertical electric field by a potential difference between the pixel electrode 9 and the counter electrode 11, and using the vertical electric field.
