A backlight (illuminating device) (2) comprising a light-guide unit (11) including a point light source (LED) (5) and a light guide (7) for diffusing a light from the light source to cause surface-emission. The light-guide unit (11) further includes a substrate (4) to position and fix the light source (5) and the light guide (7). At an incident plane of the light guide (7) on which the light from the light source (5) is incident, there provided is a protrusion (12) protruded in a direction opposite to the incident direction of the light from the light source. The light guide (7) is positioned and fixed on the substrate (4) by fixing the protrusion (12) on the substrate (4). Accordingly, in an illuminating device using the light source and the light guide, an illuminating device having improved light utilization efficiency and brightness uniformity is realized.
