PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve highly robust recognition and highly precise position detection with less computational complexity in a pointing device.

SOLUTION: A featured point extraction part 34 extracts a featured point from a pickup image. A calculation part 35 recognizes the position of the featured point. A composition part 39 displays a featured point pointer showing the featured point based on the position of the featured point. A command issuing part 38 issues a command corresponding to the position or movement of the featured point based on the position of the featured point. This invention may be applied to an image processor for providing a pointing device.
