<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methanol oxidation catalyst having high activity and a method for manufacturing the methanol oxidation catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The methanol oxidation catalyst contains a fine particle having the composition shown by general formula (1): Pt<SB>x</SB>Ru<SB>y</SB>T<SB>z</SB>Q<SB>u</SB>(wherein a T element is at least one selected from the group consisting of Mo, W and V; a Q element is at least one selected form the group consisting of Nb, Cr, Zr and Ti; x is 40-90 at.%; y is 0-9.9 at.%; z is 10-50 at.%; u is 0.5-20 at.%). The methanol oxidation catalyst is characterized in that an area of a peak derived from a bond of the T element to oxygen is ≤80% of that of the peak derived from the bonds of the T element to the metals in a spectrum obtained by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy method. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
