PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk unit and optical pickup with cleaner which notifies a position of a fingerprint on an optical disk, automatically removes the fingerprint, and alternatively stores important data to an area with no fingerprint. SOLUTION: The optical disk unit comprises fingerprint detecting means 116 and 132 for determing a fingerprint on the optical disk when radiating a light beam condensed so as to recognize one dot of the fingerprint to scan the optical disk and detecting dots continuously at a plurality of times from a reflective light, and a fingerprint removing means 108. The fingerprint removing means 108 removes the finger print when the fingerprint detecting means determines a fingerprint on the optical disk. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
