PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent breakage of a peripheral circuit of an electro-optical device and improve the light resistance. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device comprises a first substrate (10); a plurality of pixel parts (100c) aligned in a pixel area (10a) on the first substrate; a second substrate (20) disposed in opposition to the first substrate; a sealant (52) for mutually sticking the first and second substrates in a seal area (52a) located around the pixel area; a gap material (56) to be spayed within the sealant; a peripheral circuit part (7, 101, 104) for controlling the plurality of pixel parts, which is disposed at least partially in the seal area, and comprises a transistor; and a protruding part (201) disposed at least partially in the part other than the overlapping part with the transistor of the seal area on at least one substrate of the first and second substrates and protruded in a direction along the normal of the substrate surface of the first substrate opposed to the second substrate.
