PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of measuring water flow and its apparatus capable of measuring flow rate of ocean stream while reducing facility cost. SOLUTION: The method of the present invention includes taking images of undulation pattern of water surface generating at the surface due to water flow or wave by a video camera with a certain time interval and measuring traveling rate and direction at a certain area thereby to measure one or both of flow rate and direction of the water flow. An image of correlation window centering on measuring point is segmented from two images (capture image) taken with a certain time interval and the flow rate and direction are measured based on the position relation of the correlation window from which similarity degree of average picture element color value becomes maximum between images of the correlation window.
