PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end face grinding method and a double-side grinding device for stably machining a workpiece with higher accuracy. SOLUTION: The double-side grinding device comprises: upper and lower grinding wheels 16, 26; a motor drive feeding mechanism for driving the feed of the upper grinding wheel 16 to the lower grinding wheel 26; and a controller 50 for controlling the feeding mechanism. The rotational centers of the grinding wheels 16, 26 are offset so that non-opposed portions are provided on grinding wheel faces 16a, 26a, respectively. Distance sensors 40, 41 are provided at the non-opposed portions so that they are opposed to the grinding wheel faces 16a, 26a, for detecting distances from the grinding wheel faces 16a, 26a. During machining a workpiece W, the operation of the feeding mechanism is feedback controlled in accordance with the detection results of both sensors 40, 41 by the controller 50, to produce set cutting-in feed.
