The device represents a distance of a motor vehicle (1) to a barrier by head-up displays (7-9), and represents information of a sensor (2) of a front region of the motor vehicle on the head-up displays. The sensor is designed as an infrared camera, and an image recorded by the camera is represented by the head-up displays. A signal is switched between the representation of distance of the vehicle to the barrier at the front region of the vehicle and the representation of distance of the vehicle to the barrier at a rear region of the vehicle.
