<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having superior color reproducibility, while keeping high luminance, and also to provide a color filter that is used therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a backlight, equipped with a white LED which produces white light by mixing lights from a blue color LED, a red emitting phosphor, and a green emitting phosphor; and the color filter which has colored pixels of a plurality of colors, including at least red colored pixels, green colored pixels, and blue colored pixels. The emission spectrum of the white LED has a first peak wavelength in a wavelength region of not lower than 440 nm nor longer than 470 nm, a second peak wavelength in a wavelength range of not lower than 510 nm nor longer than 550 nm, and a third peak wavelength in a wavelength region of not lower than 630 nm nor longer than 670 nm. In the xy chromaticity of the CIE1931 XYZ color system, the color reproducibility range is 72% or higher, in terms of the NTSC ratio, and a stimulus value Y in the tristimulus value XYZ at white display is in a range which satisfies the relation with the NTSC ratio expressed by: Y≥-0.389×NTSC ratio+58. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
