PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent breakage of a peripheral circuit of an electro-optical device and improve the light resistance. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device comprises: a first substrate (10); a plurality of pixel parts (100c) aligned in a pixel area (10a) on the first substrate; a second substrate (20) disposed in opposition to the first substrate; a sealant (52) for mutually sticking the first and second substrates in a seal area (52a) located around the pixel area; a gap material 56 to be spayed within the seal material; a peripheral circuit part (7, 101, 104) for controlling the plurality of pixel parts, which is disposed at least partially in the seal area, and comprises a transistor; and an insulating film part (43) laminated on at least one substrate of the first and second substrates, and having a recess (201) formed to overlap with at least a channel area of the transistor in the seal area in a plan view on the first substrate.
