PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an elevator without a machine room capapble of alleviating a burden of a load of a guide rail by simplifying structure for fixing a drive device to an upper part of a hoistway. SOLUTION: The elevator (2) has guide rails (3a, 3b) for an elevator car, and guide rails (4a, 4b) for a weight. An elevator car (5) elevating along the elevator car guide rails (3a, 3b), and a balance weight (6) elevating along the weight guide rails (4a, 4b) and behind the elevator car (5), are disposed in the hoistway (1). A traction sheave (30) and the drive device (31) driving the traction sheave (30) are disposed at an upper part of the hoistway (1). A support frame (16) fixing the drive device (31) to the upper part of the hoistway (1) includes a first beam (17) connecting upper ends of the guide rails (3a, 3b), a second beam (18) connecting upper ends of the guide rails (4a, 4b), and a third beam (19) and a fourth beam (20) connecting the first beam (17) and the second beam (18). The drive device (31) is fixed to the support frame (16), while an axis (O2) coaxial with a rotational axil (O1) of the traction sheave (30) is along the width direction of the hoistway (1).
