<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily acquire and display a bit rate or a recording mode from recorded data which includes a variable bit rate. <P>SOLUTION: Information about a time interval and a position interval between a k-th I picture and a (k+1)-th I picture is acquired from display timing (PTS) and a storage starting position (TSN) included in I picture information 112 so as to arithmetically operate a bit rate between the two I pictures.
