PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element in which zinc sulfide (ZnS) is a constituting material of an electroluminescent layer, and in which high brightness can be obtained while DC driving is carried out at a low voltage. SOLUTION: This is the electroluminescent element equipped with a first electrode, the electroluminescent layer, and a second electrode laminated on a substrate, and in which the electroluminescent layer is constituted by containing a first zinc oxide layer, a zinc sulfide layer, and a second zinc oxide layer in this order.
