PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the positions of the occurrences of cracks during press molding and capable of immediately detecting the positions of the cracks occurrences during press molding through the use of acoustic sensors. SOLUTION: The acoustic sensors 1-3 are mounted to a plurality of positions in the outer surface of a press metal mold to measure acoustic waveforms due to the occurrences of cracks during press molding. A plurality of the locations of the possible crack occurrence in a press molded product are determined in advance, and acoustic propagation characteristics during press molding, from each position of possible crack occurrence to each mounted position of the acoustic sensors, are determined in advance by CAE analysis. Characteristic vectors are computed, on the basis of the acoustic waveforms measured during the press and computed acoustic propagation characteristics, and the character vectors are compared with one another and are determined at which positions of the possible crack-occurrence cracks have actually occurred.
