#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves guiding pigs (1) via a chamber (6) filled with inert gas i.e. argon, for pre-stunning, and conveying the pigs via a chamber (13) filled with carbon-di-oxide for final-stunning in a stretched vertical position, in which the head of the pig is down. A handling device (19) is arranged at the chamber (6) and operable outside the chamber (6) under limitation of the gas. The handling device has a handling tool (20) movable in an inner side of the chamber (6) for attaching the pre-stunned pigs at a conveyor (7). #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a device for stunning pigs to be butchered. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for stunning pigs to be butchered. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The pigs are conveyed via the chamber filled with the carbon-di-oxide for final-stunning in the stretched vertical position, in which the head of the pig is down, thus allowing the blood of the pig to be butchered to flow in a body region lying downwards, and hence reducing the loss of blood when the pigs are butchered. The method provides better quality of pig flesh.
