PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology capable of stably detecting detection images.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an exposure head having a plurality of imaging optical systems arranged in a first direction and a plurality of light emitting elements emitting light imaged by the imaging optical systems; a latent image carrier for forming latent images by the exposure head by being moved in a second direction orthogonal or substantially orthogonal to the first direction; a developing means for developing the latent images; and a detecting means for detecting images developed with the developing means. The images detected with the detecting means are formed in wider width than the width of the first direction of images formed by one imaging optical system.
