PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide that facilitates specifying a core position, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide 10 has the core 14 embedded in clads 12, 16, 18 and is characterized in that a colored layer 20 not in contact with the core is provided in a part overlapping the core in a view vertical to the principal face of the optical waveguide. For example, for a laminated body having the core layer, at least two clad layers laminated in a manner sandwiching the core layer, and the colored layer laminated without coming in contact with the core layer, cutting is performed from one principal face side where the colored layer is disposed with the core layer as a boundary. Then, a core part is formed by removing at least the colored layer, the clad layer on the principal face side, and the core layer, and the part removed in the laminated body by cutting is filled with resin having a lower refractive index than that of the core part.
