PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for heating/cooling a heating medium and a method for controlling the temperature of the heating medium, in each of which the temperature of the heating medium can be controlled more efficiently and stably. SOLUTION: A bypass route 19 is arranged for bypassing a heating medium heating part 12 of the apparatus for heating/cooling the heating medium and changeover valves 20a, 20b are arranged for changing over a current of the heating medium from/to the heating medium heating part to/from the bypass route. Control methods to be carried out next are determined on the basis of the present temperature PV in a reaction tank 11, the preset target temperature SV, a stable temperature range α and a control change temperature β and the determined control methods are classified into four groups of "stable heating", "stable cooling", "continuous heating" and "continuous cooling". Any temperature control method of a heating control method using a heating control part and a cooling control method using a cooling control part is carried out on the basis of the four classified groups.
