PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical organic transistor which easily performs current modulation and makes it possible to suppress manufacturing cost, and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The vertical organic transistor is provided with an upper electrode (emitter electrode 1), a lower electrode (collector electrode 2) and an organic semiconductor 3 arranged between both the electrodes, and a layer-like continuous body 4 arranged in the organic semiconductor 3, the layer-like continuous body 4 including a continuous insulating metal compound 4b and a particle metal 4a distributed in the insulating metal compound 4b. The manufacturing method thereof is configured to include a step of forming a lower organic semiconductor layer 3b on a substrate 10 where the lower electrode (emitter electrode 1) is formed, a step of forming the layer-like continuous body 4 having the continuous insulating metal compound 4b and the particle metal 4a distributed in the insulating metal compound 4b on the lower organic semiconductor layer 3b, a step of forming an upper organic semiconductor layer 3a on the layer-like continuous body 4, and a step of forming the upper electrode (emitter electrode 1) on the upper organic semiconductor layer 3a.
