PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a skew of a belt according to a skewing force on the belt and to prevent damage to the belt and a rib regardless of the magnitude of a skewing force on the belt. SOLUTION: The belt conveying device has rotating members 69a and 69b with which the rib 67 of the rotating endless belt 31 come into contact, thereby obtaining a driving force for changing the angle of a second extending roller 33, which extends the belt 31, to first extending rollers 32 and 36. The rotating members 69a and 69b have tapering faces 71a and 71b which restrict movement of the belt 31 by the contact of the rib 67 with the belt 31 when the belt 31 moves in the widthwise direction perpendicular to the rotating direction. When the rib 67 skews on the rotating member 69a (or 69b) side significantly, the position of the contact of the rib 67 with the tapering face 71a (or 71b) is displaced from the outer circumference side of the rotating member 69a (or 69b) to the inner circumference side thereof.
