<p>A dielectrophoresis device for handling (moving, stopping, separating, sorting, and so forth) a dielectric particle by dielectrophoresis and measuring the dielectrophoretic force. A dielectric solution (S) is placed in a dielectrophoresis device comprising a case having a flat top or bottom face, and dielectric target small body (particle) (P) is put therein. A nonuniform alternating electric field is produced inside the case. By tilting the case (angle ?pitch, or another direction), rotating the case in a tilted plane (rotational angle ?yaw), or adjusting the voltage and frequency of the alternating electric field, imbalance or balance between the dielectrophoretic force FDEP acting on the small body and a force FGsin?pitch attributed to the gravity and buoyancy is caused. Thus, the small body can be moved or stopped. The dielectrophoretic force FDEP can also be measured by using the tilt angle (?pitch) of the dielectrophoresis device when the small body is still.</p> |
