A juice extractor (10) is provided for extracting juice from comestibles such as fruit or vegetables (100). The juice extractor (10) comprises a cavity (38) for receiving a comestible (100) and in which the comestible (100) is compressed by the application of a compressive force. The cavity (38) has an outlet (69) through which juice is able to pass upon the application of the compressive force, and the outlet (69) is positioned at the top of the cavity (38) so that the extracted juice is forced to flow upwardly out of the cavity (38). This enables the size of the juice extractor to be reduced, particularly the height thereof. This has benefits for domestic users of juice extractors.
