The cylinder i.e. color applicator cylinder (7), has a cylinder axle (11) with two ends that are movably supported relative to frame-fixedly arranged components (14) of a rotary printing press. A mechanical synchronization device (12) is provided in order to synchronize movement of the two ends of the cylinder axle. Each end of the cylinder axle is connected with a lever mechanism (13) allowing a swiveling movement of the cylinder axle, where the cylinder co-operates with a plate cylinder (2) of a printing unit (1). An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting an applicator cylinder.
