[Class 64 (i)] Water is supplied from a pressure main to a cold storage cistern 1'2 in a hot water supply system through a valve 16 operated by a float 14 in the cistern, and the water passes when a tap is turned on through a pipe 10 not directly into the cistern 12 but into a separate circulating tank 4, so that when a tap is turned off, water enters the cistern 12 through a pipe 31 to raise the float and close the main supply. The tank 4 is connected to a water-heating stove 1 by pipes 5, 8 and water may also pass through a pipe 6 to a heater 3 on the stove flue 2. Hot water is drawn from the tank 4 by a pipe 9, which has a branch pipe 31 to the cistern. Similarly, cold water is supplied by a pipe 37 connected to the pipe 10 and having a branch pipe 38 connected to the cistern 12. The main has a stop valve 23 and a non-return valve 24. A bent pipe 25 passes from the pipe 10 into the tank 4 and has an anti-syphonic extension 27, an open branch 28 to allow expansion of water in the system and a non-return valve 25a. Pipes 31, 38 are connected to the cistern by a member 30, which has an extension forming, an overflow pipe 35 and is connected at 32 to the cistern. When a large cold water cistern 44 is employed and a tap is opened, water passes from the tank 4 by a pipe 9 and into the tank by a pipe 45 open at 46 to the cistern until the float therein is lowered to open the main cold water valve 16. The pipe 45 is connected to the pipe 10 at such a distance below the cistern that water does not flow back from the main through pipe 45 to the cistern but passes to the tank 4 and flows to the cistern by a branch 48 on the supply pipe 9. The pipe 48 is extended to form an open expansion pipe. |
