[Class 131] The slotted shear plate of a power-operated dry shaver is provided with a set of cutting edges in a plane parallel to the skin-engaging face of the shaver and a second set of cutting edges arranged endwise or at right angles to such face, the reciprocating cutter being provided with two sets of co-operating cutting edges similarly arranged. In a duplex arrangement the shear plate members 13, 23 with their projecting flanges 14, 24 are slotted to form a set of cutting edges on the horizontal inner face of the flanges and another set on the vertical inner wall, these edges co-operating with two sets of edges on the teeth 31 of the reciprocating cutter 30. The teeth 25 of the members 13, 23 are separated by flared guide slots 15a leading to short, shallow horizontal passages 15b terminating in the vertical cutting edges. Dimensions are given for the passages, teeth and overhanging flanges. The endmost teeth are thicker than the intermediate teeth.
