<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide that is easily formed, that has high conversion efficiency for example even in the case of a large conversion ratio in spot size conversion, and that allows spot size conversion with a short distance. <P>SOLUTION: The optical waveguide includes: a first waveguide core part 1 having a first width; a second waveguide core part 2 having a second width wider than the first width; and a tapered waveguide core part 3 that connects the first waveguide core part 1 and the second waveguide core part 2. The tapered waveguide core part 3 is designed to have a tapered shape in which the width becomes wider from the first waveguide core part 1 toward the second waveguide core part 2, wherein the width on the side to be connected to the first waveguide core part 1 is made equal to the first width and the width on the side to be connected to the second waveguide core part 2 is made narrower than the second width. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
