PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position measuring device for vehicles for measuring the position of vehicles correctly using roadside communication instruments, such as optical beacon installed at over-road. SOLUTION: The position measuring device for vehicles includes a position detecting means detecting vehicle positions by means of GPS, an on-vehicle communication means 1 receiving optical beacon data containing position information from an optical beacon 100, an imaging means 3 starting to image the upper part of a vehicle when receiving the data of optical beacon concerned, an extracting means extracting the optical beacon head picture 100a from the imaged imageries, a right under determination means where a position captured by the optical beacon head picture within an imagery when the vehicle is located just under the optical beacon 100 is established preliminarily as a reference position to determine whether the extracted optical beacon head picture is located at the reference position, and a position correcting means correcting the vehicle position so as to agree the position of the vehicle at the imaging time of the optical beacon head picture concerned with the position indicated by the optical beacon data when the optical beacon head picture is located on the reference position.
