PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Zn-Mg-based plated steel sheet having excellent corrosion resistance and workability, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The plated steel sheet has a plating layer, on the surface, having a composition comprising 0.1 to 2.0% Al, 3.0 to 10.0% Mg, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities, and in which the Mg content [Mg] (mass%) in the plating layer and the average major axis X (μm) of a Zn-Mg-based intermetallic compound phases other than intermetallic compounds in eutectic structure present in the plating layer satisfies inequality; 2.25-0.25×[Mg]<X<200 and 0<X (wherein, [Mg] denotes the Mg content (mass%) in the plating layer; and X denotes the average major axis (μm) of the Zn-Mg-based intermetallic compound phases).
