PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of remarkably reducing capacity storing luminosity, a lighting-on time and a white reference value group while remarkably reducing the time required until starting reading. SOLUTION: Under a white reference value generating and reading condition, a white reference value group is generated. When reading a document under another reading condition including another resolution lower than a resolution included in the white reference value generating and reading condition, the document is read while turning on a light source with the same luminosity and for the same lighting-on time as a case where white reference values are generated. The generated white reference value group is converted on the basis of a correlation between the white reference value generating and reading condition and the other reading condition and the converted white reference value group is used to perform shading correction. Since it is not necessary to adjust the quantity of light for each reading condition to determine white reference values, thereby reducing the time until starting reading.
