The device for processing faults, comprising means for detecting and identifying faults, comprises, furthermore, for at least part of the identified faults: - a means of storing a log of the occurrences of faults having the same identification, in the course of a plurality of flights, - a means of determining the impact of each identified fault, on the availability of the aircraft in a predetermined duration, - a means of associating a hierarchical attribute with each fault detected in the course of a flight, said hierarchical attribute being dependent on said log and on said impact and - a means of displaying identified faults which are associated with part of said hierarchical attributes. The present invention enables, in particular, maintenance operations or those preparatory to maintenance to be better scheduled by virtue of the hierarchization of the faults displayed.
