<p>Provided is a catalyst for producing optically active aldehydes and optically active ketones, which are optically active carbonyl compounds, by selective asymmetric hydrogenation of an a, ß- unsaturated carbonyl compound, particularly a catalyst that is insoluble in a reaction mixture and is used to obtain optically active citronellal, which is useful as a fragrance, by selective asymmetric hydrogenation of citral, geranial or neral. Also provided is a method for producing an optically active carbonyl compound corresponding thereto. The catalyst for the asymmetric hydrogenation of the a, ß- unsaturated cabonyl compound contains an optically active cyclic nitrogenated compound, an acid, and either a powder of at least one metal selected from groups 8 through 10 of the periodic table, or a supported metal obtained by supporting at least one metal selected from groups 8 through 10 of the periodic table upon a support.</p> |
