发明名称 Improvements in or relating to magneto-strictive vibrators
摘要 520,516. Magneto-strictive vibrators. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 31961. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1937. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In a magneto-strictive device the vibrating member forms a closed low-reluctance path for the flux threading the coil or coils and is supported at its nodes for efficient vibration in a particular mode. This member may be laminated and may also be polarised by permanent magnets or by passing D.C. through the coils. In one embodiment, Fig. 10, the vibrating member is in the form of a closed rectangle with low reluctance ends 93 and supported at the centre points of its longer sides 91 by supports 92, 97 and 99, these being adjusted to cause no stress tending to deform the rectangle. Coils 96 are positioned concentrically with the magneto-strictive sides 81 and have sufficient clearance to avoid interfering with the longitudinal vibration. The vibrating member may be composed of rectangular laminations stamped out in one piece and be polarised by permanent magnets 94. To extend the frequency range, the elements 81 may be shaped to have their greatest thickness at the point of support and taper towards their ends. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, two concentric cylinders 36, 38, having low magnetic reluctance, are joined together at their ends by low-reluctance discs 37 and enclose between them the coil 39. The cylinders are supported separately and the coil allows them to vibrate longitudinally. They are polarised by a magnet 43. Another embodiment, Fig. 5, comprises two L-shaped vibrating elements 63 of magnetostrictive bimetallic construction with ends joined by low-reluctance material 62, polarized by magnet 61 and thus arranged to vibrate laterally, the lateral movement occurring at the apex 67. The coils 64 are connected in series aiding. Fig. 8 shows a further embodiment adapted for use in a submarine sound radiator. A toroidal core 71 carrying a winding 72 is embedded in a disc of insulating material 73 having a resilience comparable with that of the core and provided with a centrally located support 74. The core vibrates radially, the support 74 being at a node and energy from the core's periphery arrives at the orifice of the horn 77 in phase by equal paths 78 to transmit sound from the horn. A final embodiment, Fig. 11, comprises an elongated oval element 107 supported at its nodes 109. This element is of bimetallic construction and vibrates laterally. It is energized by coil 111 and polarized by magnets 106, the degree of polarization being adjustable. This arrangement may be adapted to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Specification 375,375 is referred to.
