<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regulate the width of a monitoring area in accordance with a placement environment by a unit of one spot light in a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: This sensor for an automatic door includes a light emitting section 20 having a plurality of light emitting elements 21 that emit infrared spot lights via a first lens 22 in at least one line arrangement toward a monitoring area set at a portion in the vicinity of a doorway of an automatic door, and a light receiving section having a light reception element for receiving reflection light from the monitoring area via a second lens. When an inter-element pitch between the light emitting elements 21 is represented by W1 and a lens inter-center distance of two-divisional lens of the first lens 22 having two convex lenses is represented by W2, the light emitting elements 21 and the first lens 22 at a light emitting section 20 side are arranged so as to satisfy an expression: W1>W2.
