PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable voltage type transformer allowing the voltage of a secondary winding to be steplessly changed by simplifying the structure without needing another power source. SOLUTION: This variable voltage type transformer includes: an iron core 2 constituting a closed magnetic path; a primary winding 3 and the secondary winding 4 respectively wound around the iron core 2; and magnetic path area adjustment means (8, 9) located between the primary winding 3 and the secondary winding 4 for steplessly adjusting the magnetic path area of the iron core 2. Since a flux content flowing to the secondary winding 4 can be steplessly adjusted by forming the transformer into such a structure, the voltage generated in the secondary winding 4 can be steplessly changed. Accordingly, a control winding for adjusting the flux content, another power source for carrying a current to the control winding and a current adjustment device for adjusting the flow rate of the current from the other power source are not necessary at all.
