PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fungi to be bred on tobacco leaves from being developed in their drying step by effectively sterilizing continuous ropes prior to knitting the tobacco leaves thereon. SOLUTION: A method for sterilizing continuous ropes N knitted with tobacco leaves includes the following process: the continuous ropes N to be sterilized are hung and arranged in a sterilization chamber 12; steam is filled in the chamber 12 and the inside space of the chamber 12 is maintained for a set time at a temperature or higher necessary for sterilizing the continuous ropes N; subsequently, while exhausting the steam in the chamber 12, hot air for drying the tobacco leaves is brought into the chamber 12 and circulated in the chamber 12.
