PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which can notify an input concerning a complicated character by the display using a display means which has a plurality of unit display areas consisting of a plurality of dots arranged in the shape of a matrix. SOLUTION: The tape printer 1 has a liquid crystal display 10 including a plurality of unit display areas 11 consisting of a plurality of dots 13 arranged in the shape of a matrix. When inputting a special symbol, the tape printer 1 establishes a choice display area 60 and a symbol detail display area 65 consisting of a plurality of unit display areas 11 adjoining mutually in the liquid crystal display 10. When one of the alternative choice displays is chosen, the tape printer 1 displays part of the special symbol corresponding to the alternative choice display in the symbol detail display area 65 based on special symbol data 51 for display. When display-part changing operation is performed, the tape printer 1 alters the display content of the symbol detail display area 65 into other part of the special symbol.
