PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quickly and uniformly holding cells of the number necessary for bioassay in a separately aligned state.

SOLUTION: The cell holding method comprises a sheet-preparation step to prepare a sheet having a plurality of through cavities and a contact step to contact the sheet with a prepared liquid suspension of particles carrying cells, wherein the cavity holds only one particle together with the liquid in the hole.
