<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for synchronizing signals, capable of efficiently detecting the synchronizing position of reception signals, even under an inferior transmission and reception environment, wherein the power of delay waves or interference waves or noise power is large. <P>SOLUTION: The signal synchronizing device 1 executes hard decision of source signals A(t) in a signal decision unit 11, outputs reception signals I(t), outputs decision error signals J(t) based on the absolute value of a difference between the amplitude of the source signals and the amplitude of the reception signals, and outputs matching signals E(t) indicating the matching degree of a reception signal sequence and a known signal sequence in a matching detection unit 12. On the basis of state signals C(t) output from a prescribed signal generation unit 13, the decision error signals J(t) and the matching signals E(t), in a signal holding part 14, holding signals P(t) indicating the time when the matching signals E(T) become maximum within a prescribed time section are output.
