PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extension hula seal to be used for a combustor. SOLUTION: The hula seal (210) includes a plurality of leg portions (220) defining a plurality of slots (230). The slots (230) can include a plurality of extended slots (250). A method for operating a combustor, which is provided in the other embodiment, can include steps of: defining a plurality of extended slots in the hula seal; positioning the hula seal around a combustor liner and a transmission member; and circumferentially extending a leak flow from the combustor liner through the extended slots of the hula seal.
