PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of appropriately measuring the density of a measurement patch in accordance with properties of the surface of an image-formed body. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus D is configured to form the measurement patch Pb on the surface 7a of an intermediate transfer belt 7 functioning as an image-formed body, measure the density of the measurement patch Pb every fixed density measuring sampling time tb, and then, perform a process control to correct the image forming condition based on the measured density value Vb of the measurement patch Pb. The base material of the intermediate transfer belt 7 is detected, then, the density measuring size Eb of the measurement patch Pb or the number of sampling times Nb for measuring the density of the measurement patch Pb is changed based on the base material detection value Va obtained by detecting the base material of the belt.
