PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel (meth)acrylate compound that has a high refractive index, has no problems of absorption in the ultraviolet range and fluorescence, exhibits excellent transparency and is polymerizable; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The (meth)acrylate compound is manufactured by photodimerizing a 9-[2-hydroxy-3-(meth)acryloyloxypropoxy]anthracene compound and is an aromatic polycyclic compound having a high refractive index, bears a radically polymerizable group and has an anthracene dimer skeleton.
