PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door-opened travel preventing device having simple construction for reliably braking an overloaded passenger car when burdened with weight heavier than predetermined. SOLUTION: The door-opened travel preventing device includes a guide shoe for guiding the passenger car of an elevator along a guide rail. It also includes a brake pad to be pushed against the guide rail to put a brake on the passenger car being moved, a first coil for separating the brake pad from the guide rail when putting no brake thereon, and a piston for fitting the brake pad into a clearance between a casing fixing the guide shoe and the guide rail when stopping the passenger car in emergency.
