PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion device having compact construction for achieving great load resistance and an improved displacement scaling factor. SOLUTION: The expansion device includes two end face members 1, 2 having N-piece universal couplings 32 passing through a shaft core and equally distributed, and facing each other, two intermediate base materials 41, 42 having other N-piece universal couplings 33 equally distributed, rotatably journaled along the end face members at any positions including the axis, and facing each other, N-piece X-shaped link means 3 consisting of one or more X-shaped links 31 connected in series to one another and each having one end linked to the universal coupling 32 of the end face member and the other end linked to the universal coupling 33 of the intermediate base material, and a driving means 5 being a thrusting means or a rotating means.
