PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high error correcting operation by flexibly adapting to transmission line characteristics, the types of clients included, and the communication environment of a transmission system, or the like. SOLUTION: In a transmission device 30 on a signal-receiver side, when a signal quality monitor means 311 detects a change in signal quality, an informing means 34 transmits a signal quality change notification signal to a transmission device 20 on a signal transmitter side. When an informing means 23 receives the signal quality change notification signal, the transmission device 20 transmits a change-over timing notification signal to the transmission device 30 to instruct a changeover timing. The transmission device 30 causes an error correction circuit change-over circuit 321 to switch an error correction circuit at an instructed change-over timing. The transmission device 20 causes the error correction circuit change-over circuit 211 to switch the error correction circuits 214-1 to 214-N, at the timing of change-over timing instruction instructed.
