PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor which is built in a simple configuration but can reliably detect the information recorded on a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The magnetic sensor has a core forming a closed magnetic circuit with a magnetic gap in it, and a detection coil wound around the core to detect a magnetic field applied to the magnetic gap. Especially, a non-magnetic metal is buried in the magnetic gap of the core to generate an ac magnetic field in the magnetic gap when an ac voltage or current of a predetermined frequency is applied.
