PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic shock absorber optimal for expecting an improvement in its versatility, by permanently guaranteeing expansion operability, without deteriorating lubricating oil stored in an oil reservoir recess by mixing-in of foreign matter. SOLUTION: This pneumatic shock absorber includes a cylinder body 1 for storing gas being a working fluid, a piston body 3 slidably arranged in this cylinder body 1 and partitioning the inside of the cylinder body 1 into a rod side chamber R1 and a piston side chamber R2, a rod body 2 projectably-retreatably inserted into the cylinder body 1 by joining this piston body 3 to the tip side, and an oil reservoir case 5 arranged inside a head end part of the cylinder body 1, penetrating trough the rod body 2 and having the oil reservoir recess 5a on the inner periphery for storing the lubricating oil, and includes a checking means 6 for preventing mixing of the foreign matter in the lubricating oil.
