522,081. Powdered-fuel engines.. HANNOVERSCHE MASCHINENBAU AKT.-GES. VORM. EGESTORFF, G. HANOMAG. March 8, 1939, No. 7503. Convention date, May 25, 1938. [Class 7 (ii)] An apparatus for forming, a mixture of fuel dust and air comprises a dust storage receptacle feeding a mixing-chamber, from which mixture is drawn by air passing through an air-inlet conduit to the engine, excess mixture being returned from the mixing-chamber to the storage receptacle. Fig. 1 shows a receptacle 2 feeding dust fuel into a mixing-chamber 1, in which the dust is whirled by air admitted at 3, 4, the mixture thus formed being drawn through a nozzle 7 by the flow of air through the air inlet conduit 6. Excess mixture is returned by a pipe 10 covered by a screen 13, which causes the fuel dust to fall back into the receptacle 2. In a modification, the whirling- air is admitted at the bottom of the chamber 1, and the return conduit 10 for excess mixture surrounds the dust-feed conduit.
