[Class 120 (ii)] A tubular adaptor connected to a spinning, doubling and twisting spindle is connected to the spindle so as to enable it to be used with different sizes and types of bobbins &c. by a coupling comprising a bush-like member mounted on the spindle blade to receive the tubular end of the adaptor, two complementary part-couplings respectively associated with the bush-like member and the adaptor and adapted for interengagement by the rotation of one part-coupling relatively to the other after the adaptor has been pushed longitudinally on to the spindle, and means for preventing relative rotation between the spindle and adaptor part the position of the one constituting a positive driving connection between the spindle and adaptor. As shown in Fig. 3, the bush 14 is provided with grooves 142 and a screwed collar 15 forming one of the part-couplings, and is adapted to be engaged by projections 162 on the ferrule 161 of the adaptor forming the other part-coupling, the coupling being completed by screwing the collar 15 into the adaptor; the projections 162 in the grooves 142 prevents relative rotation between the spindle and the adaptor. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the projections 202 on the ferrule 201 of the adaptor pass through slots 191 in the bush 19 to engage grooves in a screwed collar 18 which is then turned so that the projections 202 take beneath the bush, the coupling being completed by screwing the collar against the end face of the whorl or against the bush, according as to whether the spindle is rotating twist or weft way; in a modification the fixed bush has a sleeve-like extension carrying a screwed collar and a fixed collar. A cap is provided to screw on to the bush when the adaptor is not being used. The bush may be integral with the whorl, Fig. 11, and provided with longitudinal slots 251 leading to circumferential branch slots 252 with which the projections 202 on the ferrule 201 engage.
