A method and wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for switching a radio access technology (RAT) between a cellular access network and a wireless local area network (WLAN) are disclosed. The WTRU receives a service from a core network via a cellular access network. The WTRU receives a message via the cellular access network, wherein the message includes information that identifies one or more WLANs. The WTRU selects one of the WLANs from the message and receives the service from the core network via the selected WLAN.
